Description of Service:

Learning Disabilities Services: tutoring for the improvement of basic academic skills, career counselling, life skills counselling, individual, group and family counselling, alternative course evaluation methods, reduced course load, special equipment and materials, learning skills workshops, and access to assistive technology.

Academic Supports: self disclosure, educational supports, orientation, academic accommodations, crisis management.

Mental Health Disability Services: supports for self-disclosure, academic support and social support

Social Supports: coping strategies for managing health and school, peer support group, peer mentor program.

Financial Supports: bursaries and awards information, Canada student loans program policy amendment. The support that is offered to students with psychiatric disorders is education related, not treatment oriented; it is not meant to replace mental health support available in the community.

Project ADVANCE: a free (refundable deposit required) 2 week transition program that prepares students with specific language learning disabilities for the transition to post-secondary (college or university) while they are in their final year of high school. Funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities, Government of Ontario and the program is offered through the Learning Disabilities Program at York University.
